I’m on a few different mother’s groups on facebook and without fail, each day, there will be one anxious mother posting “is this normal?” Ranging from a 6 month old baby not rolling to a 3 year old toddler chucking a tantrum every 2 minutes.

When we experience something brand new for us, something negative and unpleasant perhaps, our first reaction is usually “OMG what the actual hell?” And then our second is “please Goddess tell me I’m not the only one”.

We don’t want to be on our own, having our own weird experiences. This is completely instinctually driven from our cave man-ancestral days where safety could be found in the group. Being on your own usually lead to death.

But here’s the thing – there is no such thing as normal. The more you try to be one of the crowd, the more you will lose your sense of self.

Instead of searching for “normal”, we need to be confident in ourselves and forge new paths.

Here’s what happens when you try to be “normal” and fit in with the crowd:

– You end up in a job you don’t really like but other’s gave you massive approval for it

– You end up in a relationship not being 100% yourself because you are trying to be who they want you to be

– You end up with negative body issues because you want so desperately to fit in that you will change everything about yourself.

Normal doesn’t exist. But your amazing unique individual traits do. Instead of dulling them or altering them in anyway, it’s time to fly the flag and own them proudly.

The way to confidently forge your own path is to look at people who are the epitome of uniqueness. Model their attitudes, thoughts, beliefs and values. Don’t copy what they are doing but instead be inspired that they broke out on their own and are unapologetically THEM. If they can do it, so can you.

One of my shero’s is the talented muscian, Pink. She is so authentic and genuine in everything she does. No-one can argue that she is one-of-a-kind. She owns it!

It’s not about being Pink, it’s about seeing her self-confidence and building that within ourselves. So that when you are no longer concerned with being “normal” you can enjoy life to it’s absolute fullest.
