It’s easy to feel motivated today. Its casual Friday, the weekend is just around the corner, you may even get the chance to knock off early. So spirits are high.
But what about Monday morning? How do you feel then? And wouldn’t you like to feel as high as you are feeling today? There is a simple but really powerful question that can help turn every single day around and have you feeling like its Friday every day. And that question is this:
How can I make today the best day ever?
There are so many POWERFUL aspects of that question, so let me break it down for you.
- The use of the word ‘I’. You, and only you, have the responsibility for how your day runs. You choose whether it’s a Monday or a Friday. So by asking what you can do, you aren’t looking outside of yourself but instead, you are looking internally. This is so resourceful. Instantly you will change your mood, you will look at your capabilities and stretch them. All of a sudden a mundane day will turn into an exciting adventure.
- ‘Today’. Many of us like to think about tomorrow, the weekend, next month. We then say, ‘well I’ll have a good time then’. But bringing our attention to today, we block out the future and we give ourselves permission to live in the moment. We allow ourselves to have fun right now rather than waiting. Carpe the hell out of this Diem.
- ‘Best Day’. Wow, that’s a bit extreme, don’t you think? No, I don’t. You can listen to a lot of motivational speakers harping on and on about ‘life is short’. And while this is true, we don’t like to be reminded of the fact we are all one day closer to death. But imagine being eighty and looking back on your life. You can either look back on a rich, colourful tapestry of consecutive amazing days or you can see splotches of colour where the weekends were and grey everywhere else. I know what I want to see, what do you want to see?
- ‘Ever’. Can you smell the challenge here? You may have had a pretty good day yesterday but this word is calling you to do better today. Reach higher, go further, be happier. A great teacher once told me ‘if you aren’t green and growing, you’re ripe and rotten’. It is so true. The moment you stop growing and evolving, what is there to live for? There is always a new level of awesomeness and adventure to be had. Rise to that challenge.
So here’s my challenge for you. For the next 21 days, ask yourself this question every morning. Then in the evening, keep a journal of how it worked for you, what changed, what stayed the same and did you really have a freakin’ awesome day. I’d love to hear what you plan to do today. Write a comment below or on the facebook page about how you will make today the best day ever. Remember, if you aren’t green and growing, you are ripe and rotten. Have an AMAZING day!
Remember, I’m on your team – I’m cheering for you!
