Do you have a daily ritual?

Perhaps an hour of power in the morning? A daily ritual is something you do on a consistent basis that gets you in the right frame of mind for the rest of the day.

Truth time: I haven’t had one. Until now that is.

Tony Robbins says that we all need a daily ritual to get us into our “peak states” in order to achieve our goals.  For instance, having a sleep in, rolling out of bed at midday, eating crappy foods and listening to toxic talk back radio won’t put you in a positive state of mind, let alone the “peak state” that will help you achieve your goal.

With many of my clients, I introduce them to this model: BE > DO > HAVE.

Who do I need to be and what do I need to do in order to attain what I want to have?

Let’s get practical here.

So have a think for a second about your goal. Perhaps you want to lose weight or find a loving partner. Whatever it may be, really think about your goal.

Now think about the people who have already achieved similar success to what you are aiming for. What kind of mentality did they have? What kind of beliefs did they need to adopt? What new thoughts did they start to think?

It doesn’t happen instantly.

I can promise you one thing: things didn’t click for them over night. It was through daily, consistent action that they developed the right mentality and focus required to get the goal.

But it can happen quickly.

What sort of changes would you see after two weeks of eating healthy and exercising every day? Not only would you see some weight loss and muscle tone but you would also feel great! And that’s what happens when we introduce a daily ritual into our life. We create consistent action that is in line with our goal to help make it happen faster.

So let’s get started with daily action.

First things first, we need to have a focus and we need to be excited about it. Your goal needs to be motivating and really compelling.

Then we need to look at what we can do each and every day, that will get us motivated and prepared to take action.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Subscribe to an inspirational youtube channel and watch a clip in the morning.
  • Go for a powerwalk
  • Listen to some pumped up music
  • Read
  • Meditate
  • Journal

My daily ritual looks like this

I wake up at 5am (yep, you read that right, 5am. What can I say, I’m an early bird!). I turn on the heater in my meditation space. So while that’s warming up, I drink a small glass of water and wash my face with warm water. This helps to wake me up gently and gets me ready for some zen time. I plonk my butt on my meditation pillow and zone out for half an hour. At the end of my meditation, I don’t rush to get ready for the day. I sit quietly for a minute or two and then take a shower. All the while being really mindful and present. Not thinking about the emails I need to get to or my list of things to do. Just being in the now.

It’s only been a few days of solid, consistent practice but I’ve seen a HUGE change.

I’ve noticed that I am calmer, more productive and have achieved some small, but important, mini-goals. I’ll keep you posted as to how my daily ritual goes but the outlook at the moment is, well, exceptional!

So join me and introduce a daily ritual into your life. I’d love to hear from you. In the comments below, tell me what your goal is and what daily ritual you are going to start that will get you into your peak state.
