I have a friend who struggles to take leaps of faith. For him to have faith, he needs to see it to believe it. He likes facts and figures, evidence and proof. He cannot just trust that it will all work out.

Does this sound familiar?

Well, imagine my surprise when during a discussion with him about an important decision he had to make, he said ‘I’m waiting for a sign’.

WHA??? I was flabbergasted! My friend, Mr I’ll-know-it-when-I-see-it-thanks, was waiting on an intangible, unprovable sign from the universe. I had to probe some more.

‘Well I feel like I know what I want to do, but I’m unsure. I’m just waiting for things to fall into place because that will tell me what decision to make’.

I hear this ALL the time.

  • Waiting for my ducks to line up (hint: they never do. Have you seen a group of ducks???)
  • Waiting for the right time
  • Waiting for the other shoe to drop

I don’t have any issues with people believing in signs and fate. The issue here is the waiting. And waiting is most often a symptom of fear.

We wait and look for proof before we commit because we are totally afraid that something bad will happen. If we wait, we will never have to worry about failing, getting rejected, losing, getting hurt. If we wait, we’ll be safe.

But also, if we wait, then we will miss out. Opportunities will pass and soon we will be left with no options but to keep playing it safe.

If you have been waiting on a sign to reassure you that everything will be ok, then here it is.

Everything will be ok. Even when it doesn’t look ok, it really IS ok.

You are exactly where you need to be and whatever action you take will be supported and will lead you to your goal.

So stop waiting for someone or something else to give you  permission and give it yourself! It’s time now to get over your fear and start taking action!
